WASTE COLLECTION AND SEPARATION

Porto Airport has had the separation of the organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (USW) since 2005. This type of waste represents around 20% of the total SUW and originates, above all, from the catering and cleaning areas. One of the main factors for the success of this system results from the strong involvement and awareness-raising of producers (staff, passengers, tenants), cleaning teams and waste service provider, of the Blueotter Group. To this end, several awareness-raising actions are carried out, in collaboration with the provider, among the operators with the greatest impact on waste management (catering and cleaning). The fact that restaurants promote a high separation of the organic fraction, allowed achieving 100% of SUW recovery and, therefore, 0% of direct disposal in landfills.
